There She Is…..

Hayley Barber, Miss Alabama, has started her Miss America adventure off with a bang!  Hayley left Birmingham Sunday morning on this life changing experience.  The schedule for the contestants is full of fun and exciting activities.  The girls never have a dull moment!  Rehearsals, meet and greets, media obligations and many more events fill their days and nights!

The Miss America Organization is the nation’s leading advocate for women’s education and is the largest provider of scholarship assistance to young women in the United States.  The organization is comprised of 52 licensed organizations including all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.

Miss America contestants contribute tens of thousands of community service hours annually.  Each contestant has her own community service project as well as being committed to raising funds and providing service hours for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.  We are proud to say our local Children’s Hospital in Birmingham is one of the CMN hospitals that benefit from the hard work of our Miss Alabama and the Miss America contestants.

On Tuesday, Hayley and the Miss America contestants had a great day with the Women’s Leadership Conference and a night of dinner and dancing thanks to the Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce.  The big news of the day was the announcement of the 7 finalists for the Miss America Quality of Life Award, and the announcement of the 5 finalists for the Miss America STEM scholarships.  We are so happy to share that Hayley is a finalists for both awards! This is such a huge honor for Hayley and the Miss Alabama Organization.

The Quality of Life Award is a cash scholarship given to the contestant that has made the biggest impact with her personal community service platform.  Hayley’s platform is SIGHT FOR SMALL EYES. She developed this platform because 1 in 5 children suffer from a vision problem. Through her platform she has partnered with optometrists to provide over 1,750 children with free vision screenings. Sight Savers America also provides all Kindergarteners, 2nd and 4th graders free vision screenings in the state of Alabama.

The STEM Award is also a cash scholarship given to the contestants that are pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.  This scholarship will help empower more women to pursue careers in these heavily male dominated fields.

The Miss America Pageant will air on ABC September 11, 2016 at 8 pm.  Please join us in wishing our Bella’s girl, Hayley Barber, the best of luck!!!

Bella’s Bridal & Formal began in December 2004 in Pelham, AL in a 900 square foot building with about 12 wedding dresses. Today Bella’s has hundreds of gowns from the best designers in two beautiful boutiques, Bella’s Bridal and Bella’s Prom and Pageant in Patton Creek in Hoover.
